It is now recommended to shake the inhaler (puffer) after EVERY puff of medication is delivered into the person's mouth.
Unless your doctor says otherwise, in emergency asthma management you should do the following 4 times:
SHAKE
Puff
Take four breaths
Then wait 4 minutes.
If little or no improvement, repeat sequence 4 times again.
Remember to shake the puffer after every 4 breaths of medication.
If no improvement, call an ambulance on 000 (from a landline phone) or 112 (from a mobile phone).
